Frozen Jr. and Christmas Worship

Holiday Musical, Frozen Jr.

Every fall, for the past 15 years, we open our doors to the community and create a theatrical family with church members and neighbors, as we audition, rehearse, and perform our Annual Holiday Musical. This year’s musical was Frozen Junior.

Over 60 young people, ages 5 to 21, rehearsed in our sanctuary every week, from September to December, culminating in four performances for over 800 audience members. It has been my great honor and privilege to have directed all 15 musicals.

Of course, I could not produce these shows without the help of some very key members of our congregation. Cathy Davenport and Ingrid Krafve have been doing these musicals with me ever since the first one in 2010. It is because of their help, patience, and guidance that the musicals have enjoyed so much popularity and success over the years.

The show was accompanied by another essential church member, Yvonne Grover. She is among the best piano accompanists in the Twin Cities area, and we’re lucky to have her. I’m continually amazed at what young people can do when they set their minds to it. The poise and confidence they display onstage boggles my mind and I’m so grateful to be a part of the creative process with them. Thanks to everyone who came out to show their support for performing arts at Good Shepherd!

Christmas Worship

The waiting is finally over! After four weeks of seasonal songs of searching, seeking, and yes, waiting, we finally celebrated Christmas – the birthday of God on earth.

We celebrated Christmas Eve with a service focused on intergenerational participation. The Chorister Choir was led in song by Tor; Elsie and Lila West were assisting ministers and led carols; and children of all ages joined the Christmas Orchestra to play a rousing Christmas music medley.

Later in the evening, another service was held and featured the Good Shepherd Choir, the Christmas Orchestra again, and our amazing organist Sharon. The evening service also included the popular arraignment of Night of Silence for the lighting of the candles.

On Christmas Day we held a service of Lessons and Carols which included a pickup choir.

Here at Good Shepherd, we love to sing and we love to share our musical gifts with the world. Online viewers from Florida to Arizona, children of Good Shepherd traveling from Ohio, and members from Chaska and Chanhassen, all came to worship and sing praise for the Babe. And that is a good thing.
